5B7 – Locate major cities and nations of the world in historical context. SS5, 1.4, 1.5, 1.10
Objective: The students will be able to locate and label the states and capitals.
NETS S Standards:
1.b Creativity and Innovation: Students demonstrate creative thinking by creating original works as a means of personal or group expression
2.b Communication and Collaboration: Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences using a variety of media and formats
Activating Prior Knowledge:
Teacher will have students do a line up based upon the number of states they have been to. While they are lining up, we will discuss the states they have visited and what they know about them so far. Once the students are lined up, they will be divided into groups. This can be done by folding the line, grouping, or numbering them off.
Differentiation:
Individual students may be allowed to work in the hallway or resource room to have a quiet place to do their research.
Groups should be made up of students with different academic abilities so that they can assist each other.
